War Diaries
In recent times in Australia all topics relating to War have been in the forefront of our minds, with current involvements and those of the past.
We have been assisting a Veteran in producing his War Diary over the past three months.
In this instance "George" from Holland, who was involved in the 2nd World War has his diaries from that time written in his native language. Over many years he has translated all of the original diaries into english and with our assistance we hope to produce a suitable book. George's aim is to have something in print to hand down to his children and grand-children.
This work comprises approximately 467 pages with many photos taken of the time.
We consider our involvement a privilege in assisting George in his endeavour.
The War Diaries "Bitter Rice" is now complete and has been handed to George and we would like to thank the Bendigo Copy Centre for their assistance with the printing in short notice.
Sussex Marriage Indexes
I recently made contact with the Sussex Family History Group in relation to their Sussex Marriages Index 1500's - 1837.
They are currently preparing to place this project online.
After speaking to the person managing the development of the online delivery of the project, I offered my assistance in the development and delivery of this project online.
The project, for my part is all but complete and we are undergoing as much testing as possible. The SFHG will now have to decide how it is going to fit into their current and future online position.
Hopefully this will be available to the public soon.
MyBloodLine
MyBloodline was first conceived from the need of one of our own to record his Family History in such a way that it could be viewed by family members whom are spread all over Australia.
The site for MyBloodline is now using a management system designed solely for family history, called TNG (The Next Generation).
Australian Family Histories: a biblography and index
Gary is assisting the A.I.G.S Inc in developing an online platform for the future delivery of this project for the A.I.G.S.
This resource was developed from the data collected and established by Ralph and Amy Reid, and which served as the basis for the six cumulative editions of "Australian family histories : a bibliography and index" published between 2004 and 2015.
Gary has been communicating with Ralph for the past few months in an effort to ensure the current data can be incorporated into the AIGS online provisions.
We have now incorporated some test data to ensure the new online system is woring effectively.
The AIGS will now make the final decissions on accessibility to both members and the public.
MyAncestory ...
As part of the familyhistory.asn.au site for the Members of A.I.G.S (members area), the provision of a platform to record member's family history (tree) is now available.
This will allow members to search and record their family members under the umbrella of the AIGS.
This is another great service formembers who wish to share their family trees on a global scale with other family members.
The platform being used is TNG (The Next Generation), specifically designed for genealogy and is a great tool to use.
Testing is currently being undertaken.
Assisting the A.I.G.S Inc
For the past 7 years one of our main principals (Gary Fitzgerald) has been assisting the AIGS with their endeavours in upgrading their out-of-date IT systems, hopefully to take advantage of new Technologies and Systems.
Since Gary's involvement he has also become a Councilor of the AIGS as part of his role as Network Administrator.
Over this time Gary has overseen the introduction of a new Server, updated workstations along with other equipment. This has also included the introduction of the latest software.
Gary has worked hard to make the AIGS collection of over 3000 CDs easily accessible to all members who visit the Library.
Backup systems have also been introduced to safeguard against any form of loss of data that is integral in the running of the AIGS both from an administrative and user point of view.
Where does it all go from here? Many things are possible and with the support of their Council there is more to come.
